Beyond the ordinary

Ticket Design partnered with Kangaro® to develop an innovative line of staplers that go beyond the ordinary, designed specifically for the European market. Our focus was on creating a product that users often take for granted — one that is held in hand every day — and transforming it into a tool that combines ergonomic excellence with a distinct identity in a commoditized category.

Research and Process

Designing a handheld stationery product like a stapler requires meticulous attention to ergonomics. The challenge lies in crafting a form that feels intuitive and comfortable during prolonged use. Through extensive physical trials and iterative design, we fine-tuned the shape to ensure optimal user comfort. Each design phase involved sketching numerous concepts, creating mock-ups, and conducting hands-on testing to perfect the ergonomics and streamline the manufacturing process.

We identified critical points through testing to enhance the user experience. These insights led to refined mock-ups that incorporated user-friendly features such as quick staple loading, reduced effort stapling, tacking, and flat clinch stapling. The prototypes were robust enough for real-world testing, which provided further insights for improvement. We adapted the designs to accommodate different staple sizes while maintaining a consistent design language across the range.

Outcome

The final range of staplers elevated Kangaro®’s product line by integrating a variety of features with a visually appealing design that stands out on any desk. We selected bold, existing colors targeted specifically for the European market segment, ensuring the product is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The Kangaro LE and Kangaro Trendy, with their plastic bodies and high-quality steel components, feature a quick loading mechanism, built-in staple remover, and reload indicator—offering users a seamless experience.
